I am solidly middle class all the way. My husband and I both have jobs, our mortgage is almost paid off, I've got 2 payments left on my car, there is money (never enough) in our retirement accounts, we have health insurance and our student loans are nearly gone. I have a college education. In short, there is virtually NO reason why I would want or need any "government entitlements".
Yet a friend recently pointed me toward this page and I was shocked and dismayed to find that I qualify for 51 separate government benefit programs.
How on God's green earth can we continue to afford providing government help to people who don't need it?
Maybe it's time to look at each and every program sponsored by Uncle Sam and review the eligibility guidelines. In these days of budget deficits and unemployment, isn't it beyond the pale to even suggest that people like me suck up assets which might better be used by the truly needy?
It's time for Austerity measures before we wind up like Greece!
Oh, and another question for all of you - is it MORALLY wrong to apply for these benefits when you KNOW you don't need them and someone else does?
