You all know my son is getting married in May. He's opposed to organized religion, but is "spiritual". My D-I-L to be wants a service which references God. Now that raised a LOT of issues. First, they aren't getting married where they live, so they certainly don't belong to a Church here, where the ceremony will be held. Therefore, none of the Churches here would marry them. Secondly, since my son will NEVER belong to a Church, even the Non-denominational ministers didn't want to marry them.
So, we went through the District Justices - most of them won't work on weekends - go figure, GOVERNMENT employees LOL! And we thought about having a family member get "ordained" - but that's not as easy as it sounds, believe it or not.
Finally, we found an "ordained" minister on line who was willing to do a spiritual ceremony - which my son and his fiance wrote themselves.
Has anyone else had any problems like that? And do you think it's appropriate for clergy to charge $500 or more for the ceremony?
